Configuring Billing Integration

Integrate your billing data to have full visibility over your costs

8 MINUTES

What are we going to do?
We are going to set up the new billing report on AWS and add your custom Tags to it. Then we will integrate this report with CleanCloud.

Why are we doing this?
CleanCloud needs to access this report in order to gather billing data and improve metrics. This also will enable Insights to your account.

CONFIGURING A NEW BILLING REPORT

1. Access the S3 managment console and create a new bucket by clicking on the "Create Bucket" button. On the first step, enter the bucket's name - don't forget that it is unique within Amazon, so try something like your_company_name_CleanCloud_report. Then select the most appropriated region for this bucket and leave the last field empty.

You may simply go forward on every other step of this wizard.

After finishing the bucket's creation, click and enter on it.

2. You will need to add a special permission to this bucket in order to allow AWS to store billing reports there. To do so, inside the new bucket click on the third tab named 'Permissions' and select the second option, 'Bucket Policy' and copy the following policy:

WARNING: YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE [BUCKET NAME] IN THE FOLLOWING LINES TO MATCH EXACTLY THE ONE YOU CREATED
{"Version":"2012-10-17","Statement":[{"Sid":"","Effect":"Allow","Principal":{"AWS":"arn:aws:iam::386209384616:root"},"Action":["s3:GetBucketAcl","s3:GetBucketPolicy"],"Resource":"arn:aws:s3:::[ BUCKET NAME]"},{"Sid":"","Effect":"Allow","Principal":{"AWS":"arn:aws:iam::386209384616:root"},"Action":"s3:PutObject","Resource":"arn:aws:s3:::[BUCKET NAME]/*"}]}

3. In your Billing & Cost Management console, go to the Reports tab and click on Create Report. GO HERE.

4. Enter the Report Name, select Hourly as the time unit and make sure the Resource IDs checkbox are checked. You can then safely ignore the other fields and click on Next.

5. Type the bucket name you created at the Step 1 of this tutorial and click on Verify. This will check if the permissions are correctly applied.
If you want, set the Path Prefix to cleancloud and leave the compression at GZIP. Then click on Next.

6. Verify if the data is correct and click on Review and Complete.

7. Acess the Cost Allocation Tags tab on the menu and click on the Active button, in order to select all tags at once. Then click on save. GO HERE.

CONGRATULATIONS!

YOUR REPORTS ARE READY TO BE COLLECTED AND ANALYZED
NOW YOU CAN RETURN TO THE CLEANCLOUD WIZARD TO CONTINUE CONFIGURING YOUR ACCOUNT
